What are Tracking Technologies?

Tracking technologies, such as pixels, tags, beacons and scripts, are methods used to monitor user behavior. Often this involves small snippets of code embedded in a website or email to track user behavior. They gather data on actions such as page views, clicks, and conversions, helping marketers understand how users interact with their content

How Tracking Technologies Are Used:

  • Conversion Tracking: Tracking technologies track the effectiveness of marketing campaigns by monitoring actions like purchases or form submissions

  • Retargeting: Tracking technologies collect data on visitor behavior to show targeted ads based on their interests and activities

  • Analytics: Tracking technologies help analyze website performance, providing insights into metrics like page views, session duration, and demographics

  • Social Media: Platforms like Facebook use tracking technologies to track user interactions and conversions from social media ads

  • Email Marketing: Tracking technologies track email opens, click-through rates, and other interactions to optimize email campaigns These pixels are crucial for optimizing marketing strategies and improving user engagement

Global‑e obtains datapoints from tracking technologies from a JavaScript callback function (“OnCheckoutStepLoaded”) that holds the checkout and order information in a data object.

Types of Tracking Technologies

Global-e uses the following Tracking Technologies to facilitate analysis of user checkout actions.

  • Client-side Tracking Technologies – Associated with the website that the user is visiting. Client-side marketing pixels are tracking technologies that operate within the user's browser. These tracking technologies are embedded in the HTML code of a webpage and are activated (or "fired") when the page is loaded.

  • Server-side Tracking Technologies – Server-side tracking technologies (also known as server-side tracking) operate on the server rather than the user's browser. This method captures and processes data on the website's server before sending it to marketing platforms like Google Ads or Facebook.

We have created a detailed table, which is attached below. The table provides a clear and comprehensive image of the tracking data points.
